Explore Canada's Arctic
Thousands of square miles of uninhabited barren lands. The clean, fresh air. The beautiful crystal clear unpolluted lakes and rivers. The weather, forever changing. The pristine wilderness. Herds of Muskox and Caribou. Arctic foxes camped under your cabin. Arctic hare, weasels and lemmings everywhere. A pair of swans in every lake. The unique call of the yellow-billed loon swimming in front of your cabin. Canada geese marching by your doorstep. Polar Bear roaming the ice pack. Arctic cotton and small flowers adorning the countryside. Where else in the world is nature so wild and untouched? It's the "Land of the Midnight Sun". It's Victoria Island. An arctic wilderness experience that is a joy to behold!
Clothing
Warm clothing, including gloves, hats and heavy socks are needed. Temperatures range from near freezing at night to 70 degrees during the day. Remember to bring suntan lotion and mosquito repellent. Don't forget your camera! Good planning is needed as luggage is limited to 50 lbs.
Meals
Delicious home cooked meals are prepared by our chef. Delectable desserts are baked daily. Groceries, including fresh vegetables and fruits are flown in weekly. Experience some of the ethnic meals such as muskox, caribou & bannock. Enjoy mouth watering arctic char and lake trout. You will find that we live up to our excellent reputation for superb food.
Muskox Hunts
Our Muskox hunt during the last two weeks of August is part of the annual harvest of the Victoria Island Muskox herd. This is an important part of controlling the size of the herd to prevent over grazing and possible disease. High Arctic hunts are located in the middle of the largest concentration of Muskox on the island. Some of our hunters this summer enjoyed a side charter to the Hadley Bay area to view Polar Bear on the ice pack and fish the Nanook River for Silver Char during the fall run.
